Suburban Dream, Protein Journal

Suburban DreamOur super small thought for Protein Journal (UK); Suburban Dream. We wrote: A Super Gym. Hovering over the typical Asian sprawl of gated community, a Super Gym is a new connection from one village to another. It is a place where want-to-be healthy stressful middle classes meet. Everyone is sweating but constantly smiling. The gym is not a last century stacking rooms but cluster of open and close space that frequently reorganizes itself. It has everything from swimming pool, library, biking track to rugby field. It is a city in itself but only made for people to meet while sweating.

Prongdong Kamar Band

When asked in what role we are in the society that undergoes the conflict, as a designer, we have been responding with series of our designs. This year for Big Mountain Music Festival 2, there is the new version of Kamar design (see last year market design) for the Kamar market. Our just out of the owen design pattern is called “Prong-dong” (Thai word meaning “Reconciliation”) mimicking Thai government’s policy in solving the political conflict between Red and Yellow protesters. The Kamar band will consist of only 2 thread colors; red and yellow. We hope this simple and traditional object is carrying a critical message towards what is going in our society right now. 5,000 pieces of the Kamar will be produced and used in Big Mountain Music festival 2’s market (taking place 10 Dec 2010)

More detail will be posted here as we are approaching the final stage of design.

Quick Bites, Design for better eating, TCDC 2009

4 years ago, we started clipping 13,000 A3 papers to make ceiling for a concert, then we hung 2500 pieces of cieling modules just recently we stuck 3,000 colorful glass fins to a large-scale building. I have been wanting to write a more theoretical about the technique and put different projects of ours next to each other to compare them in order to talk about one of the design techniques we have been persuing. This is the first try. It can’t be call an article yet; but keep on coming back to this I will slowly putting all the words in place. I want to publish right away and add more text and images later when I am ready. I don’t like the idea of release it when it’s done that much.

Saveland super market, Uboratchathani 2008

Thailand is very much a centrallized country where Bangkok has been the country’s socio-political core. Thailand=Bangkok is viable argument by any means. Something or someone coming from outside of Bangkok is oftenly called “Puthorn” in Thai. It is widely known as a slang for out of fashion, low budget and low tech. Continue reading
